Anyone familiar with the Deep Creek area knows that Wisp Resort is the dominant attraction. It brings the skiers in the winter and it provides a variety of lakeside resources for summer visitors. If you are a winter visitor, you may have noticed that the top of the mountain near the chairlifts has a large flat area with seemingly random boulders. Turns out that whole thing is a white water rafting location that you had no clue about.

ASCI stands for Adventure Sports Center International. It's essentially a giant white man-made white water rafting course. I know what you are thinking, why go on a man made course when white water options are all over the damn place?! As a seasoned white water guy, all I can tell you is that this comes down to convenience. You can chill out in your house, run down to ASCI, get 2 hours in, and be back at your house. And the experience is great, the water is always white. You don't have worry about river conditions or crowded choke points on the open water. ASCI limits the number of boaters at any given time and you get seasoned guides.

ASCI is the perfect white water excursion for those who want the fun without investing into a whole day on the river.

I won't lie, it feels odd going to the top of a mountain to get a white water experience. But I really enjoyed the experience. My daughter, nine years old at the time i wrote this, had a blast and had no problem staying in the boat. I don't believe anything got above a class 3, which means we had lots of action but nothing that would make us fish food. It's a great family destination and worthy of your scheduling consideration if you are vacationing at Deep Creek.
